On the opening day of the 1995-96 season, the BBC pundit Alan Hansen watched a Manchester United side featuring several academy graduates lose 3-1 at Aston Villa and delivered the line he has never been allowed to forget: "You can't win anything with kids." It dropped to Eric Cantona on the edge of the box, and Cantona adjusted his body and volleyed it back through a crowd of players into the net. 1-0. The kids didn't stop there.
